1 1/4 squat are an improvement of a the basic squat. The idea by adding that extra quarter rep and little pause in the middle of the motion is to: 1- Increase « Time under tension ». So more workload within a single rep. 2- Pausing at 90 degree is at the knee’s weakest angle. This will help to get stronger going thru this section of the motion. 3- Getting up (the concentric) part of the motion as fast as you can will help you become faster and more explosive while running and jumping. **Always perform the concentric portion of an exercise with the intention of doing it as fast as you can** .
